Here's a small piece of the story.

The name "Topoda" is inspired by Stomatopoda, the scientific order that mantis shrimps belong to.

"Why mantis shrimps?" you ask.

Well, mantis shrimps are known for possessing one of the most advanced visual systems in the animal kingdom, able to perceive a much wider range of light and colour than other animals can. They can detect wavelengths and see details in the world that would otherwise go unnoticed. That idea strongly connects with our vision as a company. We want to encourage people to look beyond what already exists, to imagine possibilities others might overlook, explore new ideas, and see the potential in creating something different. Just like the mantis shrimp sees a world filled with colours and details we cannot experience, we see new opportunities for creativity, design, and imagination.

Another reason we were drawn to the mantis shrimp is their incredible strength despite their small size. Some species are capable of delivering one of the fastest and most powerful strikes in the animal kingdom, using highly specialised structures and precise movements to create an impact far beyond what you would expect from such a small creature. This reflects something we believe strongly in as a company: size does not determine impact. We may be starting small, but we're aiming to create something meaningful through careful design, creativity, and attention to detail. The mantis shrimp reminds us that with the right engineering and a clear purpose, even something small can achieve extraordinary things.
